Four houses, one family, one valley.

We’re Ellie and Tom. We’ve looked after the houses at Tarnstead since 2011, and we still answer every enquiry ourselves.

It started with a leaking barn

Tom grew up in the farmhouse at the top of the lane. When his parents retired, the old hay barn had a hole in the roof and the boathouse hadn’t seen a boat in years.

We fixed them slowly, one winter at a time, with local slate, reclaimed oak and a lot of help from neighbours. Low Barn opened first. The Boathouse, Tarn Cabin and Fold House followed.

We live a field away, so if the stove sulks or the Wi-Fi drops, one of us can be with you in five minutes.

How we look after you

Book with us, not a platform

Enquire here and pay us directly. No booking fees, and you talk to the people who made the beds.

Dogs are guests too

Three of the four houses take dogs. There’s a towel by the door and a tap for muddy paws.

Ready when you arrive

The stove is laid, there’s milk in the fridge and a loaf from the village bakery on the table.

Come and stay a while

Have a look at the houses, then tell us your dates. We usually reply the same day.
